Night Man Inspired Beat | “Watch The Domino” Produced by Leigh Dickey | January 2018 | Beats and Speaks

Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve got more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! This latest original instrumental composition piece is entitled, “Watch The Domino”, and is inspired by the Marvel comic book character and its subsequent television series, that aired from 1997 to 1999, “Night Man”. The title of this composition, “Watch The Domino” comes from the series’ protagonist’s name, “Johnny Domino”. This track is very jazz sounding and influenced, as I wanted something jazzy, as an homage to the Johnny Domino character, since he does play a saxophone. Although, I will say, there are no saxophone runs, pieces, or parts within this composition. The creation and construction of “Watch the Domino” began with the first bass line, which I wrote and recorded using the “P-Bass” patch within “GarageBand”. The pattern on the “P-Bass” patch is a bunch of 8th, half, and 16th notes in the key of C-Major, which is the key that this composition is written, performed, and produced in. Next, I added some chords and an 8th note run with the “Classical Grand” piano and keyboard patch, as a way to sort of mellow out the “P-Bass” and the fact that I think it sounds a little bit punchy! The next two elements within this new instrumental piece were an acoustic guitar pattern, where I wanted to have something, sort of along the lines of an answer for the “P-Bass”, and once that was in place, I added a second bass part, using the “Exoplanet”, and the theory behind that was to have something answer the acoustic guitar part. To my surprise, it all fit together, each separate instrumental part. I mean, REALLY, REALLY well, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! This composition, and a few more which I will release at later dates are slower in tempo than most of my other works, but I think they sound just as good, if not better, and I’m really proud of these new pieces! Now that all the instrumental parts were laid down, I moved onto probably the most important part to any musical piece, THE DRUMS! The first element of the drum kit within “Watch the Domino” was my favourite drum from the “Modern 909” kit from “GarageBand”, where a quarter note is played on every beat of every bar. From there, to add some oomph and definition to the composition and the kick drum, I laid down a snare drum, also from the “Modern 909” kit, in almost the exact same pattern as the kick drum. The only difference was that I doubled up the kick drum on the last beat of every 4th bar. I added a clap from the “Hacienda” kit next in the pattern of a quarter note on the second beat of every bar and doubling it on the last beat of every 4th bar, much like I did with the snare drum. I figured adding the clap would add a little punch or kick to the drum kit and the overall composition. The last element to the drum kit and composition overall was the shaker from the “Infinity” kit played in an 8th and 16th note shuffle swing pattern, which I think is the exclamation point on the whole composition! That certain somethin’ somethin’ that just caps this whole thing off. There it is! The story of how my latest piece, “Watch the Domino” was written, performed, constructed, and produced! I hope you all enjoy it, and if you like what you see and hear, then PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL to keep up with my latest releases and goings on! Thanks everybody! LL Cool J Type Beat “A Little Old School” Produced by Leigh Dickey | January 2018 | Beats and Speaks | www.leightdickey.com

Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve got more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! YAY! This one is very much inspired by old school hip hop, that was incredibly popular during the late 70’s and into and throughout the entirety of the 80’s, with such artists like RUN DMC, Kurtis Blow, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, and LL Cool J. I was particularly inspired by LL Cool J’s early work from his albums, “Radio”, “Bigger and Deffer”, and “Mama Said Knock You Out”. I’ve always been a fan of all the artists I mentioned earlier in this post, but I’ve really been a big fan of LL Cool J for as long as I can remember and thought that after I had finished creating, writing, performing, and producing this new beat that it sounded like something he would use and something that he would hop on, especially in the early stages of his career. The creative process of this new composition began like most of them do, with the drums. This one in particular started with me wanting to use 2 elements from the same kit on the same track, and not wanting to separate them. I did that with a snare and kick drum from the “Electroinic Pop” kit in GarageBand, and I like the way the pattern turned out, it sounded “old school” to me, and I kept it. From there, I went on to add a clap from the “Infinity” kit, which is probably my favourite sounding clap in GarageBand. A shaker was added next from the “Modern 808” kit, with a bit of a shuffle pattern, as I wanted it to move along with the clap, but only have a slightly different altogether. To give it a bit of 80’s flare, I laid down an electro cowbell, like in Whitney Houston’s massive hit, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, which again is similar to every drum kit pattern I used in this composition. I then moved on to the synthesizer parts, and this is where I wanted a call and answer sort of feel. So, I wrote the main part on the “Rich Oscillators” patch, then doubled it using the “Playful Melody” patch. I love how it turned out! It’s got the hip hop sound I was going for and an 80’s kind of pop sound as well, which I absolutely love! That’s the story of my latest BRAND SPANKING NEW instrumental beat composition entitled, “A Little Old School”. I hope you all enjoy it, and if you like what you see and hear, then PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL to keep up with my latest releases and goings on! Thanks everybody! Talk to you all again soon!

Cheers,

LA to Vegas Inspired Beat | “Sunset on Vegas” Produced by Leigh Dickey | January 2018 | Beats and Speaks

Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve some more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! This latest original instrumental beat composition is inspired by, oddly enough a BRAND SPANKING NEW series, “LA to Vegas” on Fox! This new original is entitled, “Sunset on Vegas”, and is a very jazz, pop sounding record. The creation process began with the “Fifth Element” synth patch in GarageBand, where I played a very simple chord pattern, then duplicated it on the “Spectrum Echo” patch, just to make the main synth lead part sound REALLY full. The next element to this piece was the first of two bass parts. The first bass patch was the “P-Bass”, which I had raised a couple octaves and played a simple 16th note and half note pattern. The second bass part was created, written, performed, produced on the “Liverpool” patch, and with that pattern, I wanted something that would easily sit underneath the “P-Bass”, and give the, what I think is a proper bass feeling, where the instrument, commonly sounds low. Moreover, I think having 2 bass parts just adds to the feel and vibe of the composition, and I couldn’t be happier with how those parts sound. What’s behind the next door?! A solid 8 bar chord progression on the “Roots Rock” electric guitar patch, which I played in a sort of call and response manner. It’s very simple, and I think very calming. I think it’s one of those parts and elements that makes a composition, and I think it makes this one. On to the drums we go! The first portion to the drum kit was the kick drum from the “Hacienda” kit, where a quarter note was played on every note of every bar, except for every 4th bar, where I had played a 16th note finish and pattern, just to signify a change in the composition. The next part was a snare drum from the “Modern 808” kit. Side note, I think this is the first composition I have written to not use a clap, and that’s something that I use in almost, iif not all of my other pieces. Although, in defence of not using a clap in this piece, I think the snare drum is the perfect partner for the kick drum in this case. The 808 snare drum is played on beats 2 and 4 of every bar, except on the last beat of every 4th bar, I doubled it there. The last two parts of the composition and this drum kit are from the “Infinity” kit. The first element is what I think is a wood block played in a 16th note shuffle pattern. I used that because it sounded different than anything I had used before. The second element from the “Infinity” kit was a shaker, played in almost the exact pattern as the woodblock from the previous layer. I wanted to use the shaker to accent all the pieces of the drum kit, especially the woodblock, and plus it would be the one thing that was missing if I didn’t add it, so I did. There you have it! The story of my latest instrumental composition, inspired by “LA to Vegas”, a BRAND NEW television series airing on Fox. I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by. The Sopranos Theme Type Beat | “Steady As She Goes” Produced by Leigh Dickey | January 2018 | Beats and Speaks

Picture

Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve got more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! This latest piece is inspired by the hit HBO show, “The Sopranos”, which starred James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, and Michael Imperioli. I’ve always loved the show from its premise, direction, production, the acting of everyone involved, along with how it’s all executed, but the thing that really makes “The Sopranos” such a great show, in my opinion, is its theme song! The theme song to “The Sopranos” is Alabama 3’s or A3’s song, which became a massive hit once it was used as the theme to this show, “Woke Up This Morning”. I originally didn’t set out to produce something that sounded similar to it, but wouldn’t ya know it... I DID! The construction and creation of this new original instrumental beat composition, which is called, “Steady As She Goes” began with the drums. As most of you, if not all of you know by now, I like to keep my music and compositions SUPER SIMPLE! The first element I wrote, performed, and laid down in this composition was one of the 3 kick drum options from the “Crate Digger” kit in GarageBand. I played a very bouncy, straight ahead pattern to have a solid backbone to build on. From there, I put down a rim shot on the 2nd and 4th beats of everywhere, also from the “Crate Digger” kit. I decided on the rim shot in place of where I would usually place a clap because I thought it sounded better and also just to have something a little different. I think the rim shot just adds that certain “je ne said quoi” to the beat, that little something that’s missing, a little extra oomph, if you will. The last thing I placed in the drum kit to “Steady As She Goes” was the shaker from the “Classic Drum Machine” in a somewhat straightforward, straight ahead, but yet, shuffle pattern, with a bit of a swing feel, and to be honest, I think in terms of the drum kit, those 3 elements are the only thing this latest composition really needs. It’s simple but SUPER SOLID! Truthfully, I couldn’t be happier with it! The main instrumentation elements are the “Supergroup Lead”, which I pitched, I think 2 or 3 octaves lower than what its default setting is. The pattern with the “Supergroup Lead” consist of 8th notes, quarter notes, and a couple half notes and has a sort of REALLY groovy bounce New York/New Jersey feel. Now onto the last part in “Steady As She Goes” was the bass and I wrote and performed this bass part to compliment the “Supergroup Lead” part. The bass patch that I used was probably one of my most favourite bass patches from GarageBand, the “Car Horn Bass”. With the bass part, I wrote and played some quarter and half notes tied together as a kind of call and answer to the “Supergroup Lead” part and I think it just makes the composition just that much better! It brings it together full circle, makes it complete! I hope you all enjoy this composition, along with everything else I create, write, perform, and produce. That’s the story of my latest release, “Steady As She Goes”. If you enjoy what you see and hear, then PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL to keep up with my latest releases and goings on! Leigh Dickey
