My Thoughts on Halloween Beats and Speaks Podcast

Picture
Picture

Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! Another episode of the Beats and Speaks Podcast for you all today! In this latest edition of the show, I give you all my thoughts and opinions on Halloween! Fall is here, or autumn, which ever you prefer! That means Halloween is right around the corner and approaching fast, as of the writing of this post, there are just over 4 weeks until Halloween. As a child I loved everything about Halloween, the chocolate, the candy, the costumes, the amount of fun that it was, just all of it! I started going out trick or treating like everyone when I was really young, probably about 1 or 2 years old or so. It went out for around 10 years until about the age of twelve, and after getting home that night, I decided to not go out the following year or any year after that because I felt like I was getting to be a bit too old to go out trick or treating and asking for candy, along with the getting dressed up in costume, it was just a lot of work, and I didn’t have the same level of enjoyment as I had in previous years, so starting the next year and for the next 5 years after that, I would stay home and hand out the candy to the children and families who would come by, and I really enjoyed that. I would sit on my porch with some music on, just so I could entertain myself for the few hours that I would be out there, and wait for the kids and families to come to me. It was a lot of fun, I didn’t have to get dressed up, I could just wear my regular clothes, a jacket, a pair of jeans, and hand out the candy, it was a ton of fun! I had to stop handing out the candy after I turned eighteen, simply because life got busy, I was preparing for college and university and moving on to the next phase of my life. I’ll always have my memories of my parents dressing me up to take me out trick or treating, along with the memories of handing out the candy to the next set of children that would come by on Halloween. Perhaps one day, if I decide to have children, I’ll take them out trick or treating and create new memories that way, but for now, I can look back on the memories I have of Halloween and smile from ear to ear. I’ve had many, many good times! Thanks everybody! Talk to you all again soon! If you like what you see and hear, then PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL to keep up with my latest releases and goings on! What are your memories and favourite things about Halloween? Let me know!

Ottawa Woman Gets Eyeball Tattoo, May Lose Eye! Beats and Speaks

Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! A bit of an editorial and opinion piece blog and vlog for you all today! The original story comes from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where a woman named Catt Gallinger recently got a sclera tattoo, a tattoo on her eyeball, which could now cost her the eye altogether. Gallinger is a body modification enthusiast and had the tattoo done on September 5th. Unfortunately, the tattoo was done by someone who was unqualified, and it may now cost her the eyeball. The lesson here is to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK, DO YOUR RESEARCH, AND HAVE ANYTHING DONE BY A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL.!

I'm not here to judge the choices someone else makes, I'm just here to give my opinion on the matter. I do not have any sort of body modifications myself, but I can appreciate people that do, whether it be tattoos, piercings, earlobe or lip extensions, just modifications of any sort. I find it sad that Ms. Gallinger may lose her eyeball, it goes without say that it's an absolute bummer and completely sucks. She herself has admitted that she made a bad judgement call. With that said, I have friends who have gotten tattoos, most of them either get them on their arms, legs, chest, or back. I don't anyone who has gotten one on their eyeball, I have seen people get their eyelids tattooed, and that in itself is SUPER RISKY because a lot can go wrong. Among the things that can go wrong, if the artist or tattooer puts too much pressure on the eyelid or slip, just a tad they could drive the needle through the eyelid and the eyeball, resulting in an absolute catastrophe! Permanent damage, death. I know that there are certain parts of the body that are SUPER SENSITIVE to tattoo, other than the eyelid or eyeball, some include, the wrist, the elbow, the ribs, the head, the lips, just to name a few. If you would like to read the original source article to this story, CLICK HERE!

I'm not judging anyone who has or wants to get any sort of body modification, all I'm saying is that you should do your homework. In closing, I just want to say that I hope Ms. Gallinger does not lose her eye and that she makes a full recovery.

Cheers,

Leigh Dickey

Summer in September?! - The Seasons are Backwards! - I'm Ready for Fall! - Beats and Speaks

Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! A little something different than the usual content on the website for you all today! An editorial and opinion on the current state of the weather in Toronto, Canada. First of all, I just want to say that I love summer, but I am so not used to the way the weather has been in recent years. I mean, it's the end of September, and the weather has felt more like June and July. During the last couple weeks of this month, the temperatures have hovered around or above 30 degrees celsius, which don't get me wrong is great, but I am absolutely ready for fall and autumn. I'm ready for it to cool down, I'm ready for more normal or normal-ish September and fall temperatures. I completely jonesing to wear layers again, and not to mention jeans, socks, and boots. That's probably my favourite part of fall and autumn, the clothes, the style, the layers, and the cooler weather, at least, I hope it gets cooler. Fall is without a doubt my favourite season, it's not too cold, not too hot, It's just right, right in the middle, the perfect middle ground when it comes to weather and style. You know, thinking about me wanting it get cool down, in terms of weather and wear more layers, in terms of clothing, I may be one of, if not the only person who wants it to feel more like fall, and I stick by that statement. We're about a week into fall and the weather is still all over the place! I just want fall and maybe a consistency when it comes to the weather, that's all I'm asking for. Is that too much? What do you all think? Are you ready for fall yet? Let me know! Busta Rhymes Puff Daddy Pharrell Type Beat "Input Command" Produced by Leigh Dickey Beats and Speaks

Picture
Picture
Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I've got another original instrumental beat for you all today! This one is inspired by hip hop music from the early to mid 2000's, specifically the Busta Rhymes, Puff Daddy, or P. Diddy at the time, and Pharrell hit from 2002, "Pass The Courvoisier, Part II". This original composition, like my last one, "Party Pop" is made up of only drum tracks with the music production software that I use, and that is GarageBand. The main difference between this new one and "Party Pop" is that all the tracks that compose this track are from the same drum kit. I took all the elements in this track from the "Big Room" drum kit in GarageBand. The creation of this new beat, "Input Command" all started with this bass laser type sound effect that is within the drum kit. From there, I laid down something that sounded like a distorted shaker or sweeper sound effect. Following that, the clap was next, then a REALLY BEEFY kick drum, the actual shaker from the "Big Room" kit, an open hi hat, and finally a chip tune sort of sound effect from the same "Big Room" kit. I was going for something that sounded like a cross between a tone that you would hear in the clubs and on the radio, sometime between the early to mid 2000's, like I said earlier. I think I accomplished that. I wanted "Input Command", and the rest of the drum beat instrumentals I produced to be fun, this is a project full of fun, and I think you all will be able to hear that on this new record. A bouncy club and hip hop type original instrumental beat inspired by Busta Rhymes. Puff Daddy, and Pharrell! I hope you all enjoy this new composition, and will crank it up everywhere you are, whether in the club, at work, at home, in the car, EVERYWHERE! If you like what you see and hear, THEN PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL to keep up to date with all my goings on and latest releases! Thanks everybody! Talk to you all again soon.

Michael Jackson Off The Wall Type Beat "Party Pop" Produced by Leigh Dickey Beats and Speaks

Picture
Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I've got a brand new original beat for you all today! This new composition and instrumental is inspired by Michael Jackson's album, "Off The Wall", and is comprised completely of drum tracks. The goal and challenge with this instrumental and one of the next albums was to compose a project that had compositions made up of only drum tracks. The main reason behind that is, other than, I wanted to do it, is to just have some simple instrumental that I can write lyrics to or freestyle rap over. With this first track, "Party Pop", I drew inspiration from Michael Jackson's album, "Off The Wall" and the song of the same name. I wanted to present, produce, and give you all what I thought would be an updated, modernized, dance pop kind of version of "Off The Wall". The instrumental has a dance pop shuffle feel to it. It uses various parts of drum kits from GarageBand, the hi hat and shaker from the Classic Drum Machine kit, the clap and bass tom tom from the Crate Digger Drum Machine kit, and the kick drum and snare drum from the House Drum Machine kit, just to name a few. The rest of the composition is filled out with different sound effects found in the various drum kits within GarageBand. Like all of my projects, this composition and the subsequent record is just something I felt like putting together, something I felt like doing. I had fun producing this track and the album that it is from. When I initially started to compose and produce this track, "Party Pop", I wasn't aiming to create an album full of composition containing nothing but drum tracks, but hey, I did! So this is the first of those new original compositions. A dance pop shuffle Michael Jackson "Off The Wall" inspired instrumental with some elements of perhaps some 90's dance music. I hope you all enjoy this new original instrumental composition! Dealing with Weight Issues - Beats and Speaks Podcast

Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! Another personal story and new episode of the Beats and Speaks Podcast for you all today! Like millions and millions people before I have struggled with weight issues for pretty much my entire life! I blame my love of food! I absolutely LOVE TO EAT! My appetite for the most part, for most of my life has been completely out of control! I pushed my intake limit to its max and far, far, beyond that, at least in my opinion. I suppose I never really felt full, so as such, I kept eating until I felt I was at my max capacity, and in case you're wondering, I've learned that's a terrible idea! What can I say? It takes me a while in some cases to figure things out, and this is one of those cases! I realized that I had a weight issues when I got winded just putting my socks on one day! Red flags went up, alarms went off, that was not a good day! I always thought that I had my weight managed and under control, boy did I find out the hard way! I've had a few years where my weight had ballooned to right around and even north of the 200 pound mark, which is SUPER HEAVY for someone of my height, for those of you that are wondering, I'm about 5 foot 7 inches tall, so when you're hovering around and even north of 200 pounds, and you're me, you're considered extra on the airport baggage conveyor belt! The funny thing about those few years where I was around and north of 200 pounds, I didn't feel that I was that heavy, I was still moving around as well as I did before my weight had gotten to 200 and beyond, which still confuses me to this day, I don't understand it. I'm not sure whether it's the old saying, "you eat beacause you're unhappy, and you're unhappy because you eat". I don't know. I don't want to call a form of depression either, I'm really not sure. I was convinced that I had my weight under control and managed, I was proven wrong! When I started getting winded just putting my socks on, I knew it was time to do something about it, it was time to make a change. I felt like Homer Simpson trying to run a marathon, it was terrible! So, to combat the fact that I weighed as much as an 18-wheeler, I just started watching what I was eating and how much I was eating. I started reading the nutritional information on the groceries I would buy, I HAD NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE! The only numbers I would pay attention to when shopping for groceries before the nutritional information was the sale price! I also added more protein to my diet, and that's a four letter word that I'm not used to saying, there are others, but I won't add them to this post! I'm not on any sort of program, I just decided to do this on my own, for the betterment of me and my health! Without question, getting winded while I was putting on my socks to start off my day was a total wake up call! I know I'm not the only one who deals with weight issues, and if anyone out there is in the midst of dealing with or has dealt with weight issues, believe me when I say, YOU'RE NOT ALONE! With me, I had gotten to the point when I had enough of sluggishly getting around and it was time for a change, and I figured out that watching my intake of anything and everything was key. Don't get me wrong, you could get on a program, but it really comes down to discipline and regaining some semblance of self control. Personally, I'm not sure how much weight I have lost but I know I've lost weight, I feel lighter, my clothes fit better, I feel refreshed, I feel ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I FEEL GREAT! *CUE TONY THE TIGER!* Everything in moderation, including moderation! We all love food, but as an individual, you have to be in control of food, not the other way around. If there's anyone out there who reads it, I understand the struggle, I've been through it at several times in my life, there have been several episodes produced of my food life story, Leigh Dickey: SUPER CARB LOADED MAN! I know it sounds like the title of a bad TV movie, but I'm sure you all get the idea! There it is! That's the story of my struggle with dealing with and having weight issues, and how I've finally had enough of it, and how I decided to do something about it! I hope that you all can take something from this story, and remember, if you or someone you know is dealing with weight issues, they're not alone! Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone Review and Test Revisited - Beats and Speaks Podcast

Picture

Hey Everybody! How's it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I'm doubling up on a previous product review and test for you all today! I wanted to revisit the original review and test of the Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone I did not too long ago because I recently connect the PGA48 to an old ART USB Mix mixer and audio interface that I had purchased some years back and could never get it to work properly. I miraculously got it work, or at least it decided to work properly and cooperate with me, and I decided to connect the Shure PGA48 to it and see what would happen. What do ya know?! It worked! It connected with no issue, I selected the only other input option, which was "USB CODEC", it fired up, and I got levels and a signal going into my Windows 7 PC laptop, YAY! Don't get me wrong, I like how the PGA48 sounds when using a XLR to USB cable to connect the microphone to my laptop, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW IT SOUNDS WHEN IT'S CONNECTED TO MY COMPUTER USING A MIXER AND AUDIO INTERFACE! It sounds so, so much clearer connected through a mixer and/or interface than when it goes through a XLR to USB cable. I'm SUPER, SUPER HAPPY WITH IT! It sounds REALLY crisp, clear, it's like I've unlocked a hidden level or found a rare Easter egg in a video game! The Shure PGA48 sounds like a million bucks when paired with not just my ART USB Mix mixer and audio interface, but I'm sure it would sound fantastic when paired with any other mixer or interface. I love the production combination that I have sort of stumbled upon with the Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone and ART USB Mix! If you're looking for a solid beginner audio setup, you can't go wrong with either of these pieces of hardware! They both work SUPER WELL together and I highly recommend them both! Thanks everybody! Hope you enjoyed this revisit to my original review and test of the Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone! If you would like to purchase either the Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone or the ART USB Mix, there are links within this post, but I will also place them at the bottom of this post. If you like what you see and hear, then PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO BEATS AND SPEAKS ON YOUTUBE to keep up with all my releases and goings on! Thanks everybody! Talk to you all again soon.
