Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve got more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! This latest piece is inspired by a reboot of an incredibly popular television series from the 80’s and early 90’s, of I’m talking about, “MacGyver”. I’m a huge fan of the reboot, which stars Lucas Till, George Eads, Justin Hires, Meredith Eaton, Tristin Mays, and Isabel Lucas. Arguably, the original “MacGyver” series is one of the best, greatest, and most popular to ever grace a television screen, and I feel that this one is no different. I was in a jazzy mood when creating, writing, and producing this latest piece, entitled, “Reinvention”, and that’s the direction I wanted to take this “MacGyver” inspired original instrumental composition.
I began this composition with some simple, yet very melodic chords using the “Fifth Element” patch in “GarageBand”, and just kept building from there! With all the keyboard and synths patterns and parts, I wanted 3 different lines, 3 degrees of varied separation, but I wanted it all to somehow come together. Once the “Fifth Element” pattern was laid down and in place, I went onto a similar part and pattern on the “Evolving Colors” patch, playing the chords a little offset from those of the ones I played in the “Fifth Element” pattern. The next element to this composition was the “Electric Piano”, which I pitched an octave or two lower than its default, just to have it act as somewhat of a bass line, then coupled that with a “Classical Grand” piano part, and those two parts together work magically!
The last instrumental part and element in this composition, not including the drums, I will get to the drum kit a little later on... was an acoustic guitar part, which I wrote and played as a bunch of half and eighth notes, as well as, pitching it up a couple octaves, without having it sound like something only a dog could hear! It was the final piece, I think, that brings all the instrumental parts together to work as one cohesive unit, and that means I AM INTERNALLY VERY GIDDY WITH HAPPINESS! YAY!
Onto the drum kit we go! The first piece to the drum kit was from the “Infinity” kit within “GarargeBand”, and it’s probably my favourite sounding clap. It’s a quarter note pattern played on beats 2 and 4 of every bar, except on the last beat of every 4th bar, where I doubled it up and played eighth notes.
The kick drum used was from the “Modern 909” kit, and it’s probably my favourite kick drum to use. I played a quarter note pattern on beats one and three of every bar, except in every 4th bar, where I doubled it on both beats of the bar into eighth notes. I think that subtle change to both the kick and clap really brings the drum kit together. Lastly, I added the shaker from the “Classic Drum Machine” kit in a quarter, eighth, and sixteenth note shuffle pattern to not only cap off the drum kit in this piece, but the whole composition altogether.
There it is! The story of my latest original instrumental composition piece, inspired by the reboot of “MacGyver”, entitled, “Reinvention”. I hope you all enjoy it! Thanks for stopping by!
