One of the Most Over the Top Price is Right Contestants Ever!

I was watching "The Price is Right" recently, the June 8th, 2021 episode, to be exact. and saw one of the most over the top contestants I have ever seen in all my time watching the show with both Bob Barker and Drew Carey hosting.

This contestant was called to "Come on down!" and immediately there was dancing, bouncing, and screaming their way to contestant's row. I figured they were just really happy and excited to be there, as most, if not everyone who is called to contestant's row would be. If the screaming would have ended there, I wouldn't have made a video, podcast episode, and a blog about it!

When this contestant was called on to bid first, more screaming and shrieking ensued. She won a wine fridge right away to move on and place a pricing game, which was "Pick-a-Pair". Before the pricing game started, more screaming, shrieking, and I guess excitement from the contestant was heard, and it became very annoying. They won a game room while playing "Pick-a-Pair". Once they won, more screams, more shrieks!

I started flipping channels at this point, just to give my ears a break from the audible sounds this contestant was making, but flipped back to watch the "Showcase Showdown", and when this person approached the wheel, more screaming, more ear piercing shrieks, they won the "Showcase Showdown", and began bouncing up and down excitedly in place, while adding screams and shrieks.

The second half of the show was far less of an audible nightmare as an audience member, watching from home. Fast forward to the "Final Showcase", as both sets of prizes are being presented, this contestant is screaming and shrieking in excitement, but after flipping back and forth for an hour, I was done with it, completely over it. They won their showcase, which had a home office, a camping tent, wood burning stove, and a car.

Once this contestant was announced as the winner, they ran down screaming, shrieking to check out their prizes, bouncing and jumping everywhere. As this point, the credits started to roll, the audio was brought down, which is what normally happens at the end of an episode of "The Price is Right", but the camera were still rolling and cutting to shots of everyone on stage, until the show faded to black to end it for the day.

Throughout the episode, the models, Drew, and anyone on stage when this contestant was on, just look a bit off put and uncomfortable with their level of excitement, that's how it looked to me, and as I said, watching this episode live from home, the screaming and shrieking, made it way too over the top for me and something that ended up being really annoying.

The other contestants that day were excited, but were able to control their level of excitement and how loud they were. I am not saying by any means, to not get excited, but screaming and shrieking during an entire show, even when you're not on, is a little much.

As someone who has worked in radio, television, entertainment, and many other forms of media, I've dealt with that level of excitement, if you want to call it that several times, I've never been a fan of it, just because it makes people jobs harder, and it distracts from the others on the show, plus removes the enjoyment from the show for the crew, both on camera and behind the scenes, the audience, if they were there live, and the people at home. I guess I'm saying, it's not all about you, or this one contestant, you're not the centre of the universe, and there are other people that should be considered, even if you're as excited as you are.

Never spoil someone else's enjoyment of something or take away from their experience, while you have the same opportunity to experience at your own level, and the winning contestant from this episode just sucked the fun, excitement, and enjoyment out of the show for me that day, made it all about themselves, when it is about everyone involved, the other contestants, the models, the production crew, Drew, George, and the audience.

These are just my thoughts, I'm not trying to speak ill of this person, but I want to be honest also. Did you watch the June 8th episode of "The Price is Right?" What are your thoughts?

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Leigh Dickey
