A revival of the 90’s Disney sitcom, “Smart Guy” is in early development I tell you all about it… next!
So a revival of the 90’s Disney sitcom, “Smart Guy” is in early development. Now, according to this article from ScreenRant.com, Tahj Mowry sort of heavily implied in an interview that he would be returning to the title role of “T.J. Henderson”. Now, if Tahj Mowry sounds familiar to some of you younger folks, he was most recently, at least to my knowledge - he had a role on the Freeform sitcom or ABC Spark, if you’re up in Canada, formally ABC Family in the U. S., he had a role on the sitcom, “Baby Daddy” until it wrapped its run. If his last name sounds familiar, it's because his twin sisters, Tia and Tamera also had a sitcom of their own that ran in the 90’s from 1994 to 1999, “Sister, Sister”. I remember “Smart Guy” because we did get it up here in Canada, I think it aired on the Family Channel, and it probably reran on other networks up here as well, but. to hear that a revival or reboot with Tahj Mowry is in the early stages of development, isn't doesn’t surprise me because reboots are all the rage these days, but I think it's one of those shows that doesn't need a reboot. I mean, like I said, I know that reboots and revivals series’ are all the rage these days, but there are certain things from my childhood that I want to stay in my childhood, There's certain things that I want to remember from my childhood and not have to deal with the fact that they're being reimagined, rehashed, or rebooted, nowadays. I enjoyed the show. The premise of the original show was a young Tahj Mowry in the “T.J. Henderson” role basically he was a genius, an elementary school whiz kid, who just skipped grades and went straight to high school. so I mean for the younger generation, the generation that is coming up now, if you want to think of “Young Sheldon”, but in the 1990’s, that's the first thing I thought of, “Smart Guy” was like the original “Young Sheldon”. That's pretty much what it was, a young elementary school kid who skipped grades, was a super genius, went straight to high school, and had to navigate life from there, that's pretty much what “Young Sheldon” is these days, which in itself is a spinoff of “Big Bang Theory”. If you want to compare it to something or get an idea of what “Smart Guy” is for those of you that are watching this who don't know what “Smart Guy” is then that's the one thing I can equate it to. It's basically Tahj Mowry’s “T.J. Henderson” as a 10 or 12 year old kid navigating high school life because his character is a super genius and then that's pretty much the premise of the show. It's a family sitcom, it aired on Disney Channel originally, and again, I think we did get it up here in a couple different ways. Again, if I haven't stated this already, the article sort of states that Tahj Mowry heavily implied in an interview… there's more information about the interview that he did in this article from ScreenRant.com, about him returning to the “T.J. Henderson” role from “Smart Guy” and him having to navigate life now as an adult, and like I said, I don't think the series needs to happen. It ran for 3 seasons are between 1997 and 1999 I was between the ages of 8 and 10, it was great, I liked the show as a kid, but I don't need to see it now as an adult who's in their 30’s. I don't need to see a reimagining, they’ve done enough with “Fuller House” and “Punky Brewster”, and a whole host load of others, “Saved by the Bell”, it doesn't need to happen, it doesn't need to exist. I guess, I don’t know, call me an old crank, if you want, but maybe I'm 1 of those guys that's you know an adult now, and in his 30’s, you don't need to keep rehashing the same old shows, you can come up with a new idea! It's okay - nobody's going to frown on you for it. That's just my opinion on the matter, but you know, Tahj Mowry said, stated, or at least, implied in this interview that he would heavily return to the “T.J. Henderson” role from “Smart Guy”, and he hopes to get the original cast returning - Jason Weaver, Omar Gooding, and a slew of others. It wouldn't surprise me if his twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry who again, like I said, had their roles on “Sister, Sister” that ran from 1994 to 1999. It wouldn't surprise me if they came in to make at least guest appearances, but what do you know? “Smart Guy”, the 90’s Disney sitcom, it has a revival series, a reboot series in early development. Chances are, I would assume it would end up on Disney Plus because the world is all the rage all the streaming services now, but that's just my guess. There you go, all about the “Smart Guy” series revival being in early development. Let me know what you think, post it in the comments below. Thank you for your time.
