Hey Everybody! How’s it going? Hope you all are awesomely well! I’ve got more BRAND SPANKING NEW MUSIC FOR YOU ALL TODAY! My latest original piece, entitled, “Gridiron Rush” is inspired by Vince McMahon’s announcement about his plans to relaunch the “XFL” in 2020. This new original instrumental composition piece was created by me as a sort of anthem and official theme for the relaunching football league. I, for one am SUPER EXCITED to see the “XFL” return, as I was a fan of it during its original run and only season back in 2001.
The beginnings of this latest original instrumental composition all started with the “Picked” bass patch from “GarageBand”. Here, I laid down the bass line, which is played in a sixteenth note pattern, mainly running down the A major scale. The bass part of a mixture of quarter notes, eighth notes, and half notes. Honestly, I think this particular bass line is perfect for this particular composition. Probably one of my most favourite bass lines that I have EVER written, performed, created, and produced! A real “rock” solid bass and feel in that line.
Next, I put down a heavy metal guitar part, which I pitched up an octave or 2, and this part is an A major scale run of eighth notes, just going all over and around the A major scale. I originally didn’t want to raise the octave of this heavy metal guitar part, but I realized that if I left it as it was, untouched, then it would have thrown the whole composition off, and it would have really overpowered all the other parts to this piece. So, with that in mind, I raised it an octave or 2.
I then threw in a part played on the “Quantum Keys” patch, which I added some reverb to, just to give a little more oomph the composition and the other instrumental parts. This “Quantum Keys” line is a mix and match of half notes, eighth notes, and 16th notes, running all over the A major scale, and to that end, the entirety of this composition, “Gridiron Rush” is written, created, performed, and produced in the scale of A major.
Moving onto the construction and build of the drum kit for this piece, that began with a clap from the “Crate Digger” kit from “GarageBand”. Here I played a single sixteenth note on beats two and four of every bar, with the exception coming in the 4th bar, where I doubled the clap on beat two and tripled it on beat four. In the next step I wanted to accentuate the clap, so I played the exact same pattern as I did with the “Crate Digger” kit clap on the “Modern 909” snare drum, and I think from listening to not only the full kit back, but also the entire composition, playing the snare drum and the clap in the exact same pattern really adds some super pop to the overall piece, and it really feels as though the drums are coming right out at you, which I feels is always a good thing! Hard driving drums, you can’t ever go wrong with that! Following that, I put the kick drum pattern and part in place on the first and third beats of every bar. Single 16th notes in the first bar, doubling it on the first beat of bar two, back to a single note to end bar two, single notes completely in bar 3, and completely doubling both beats in bar 4. Lastly, here we are at the final piece to the drum kit, and the entire composition, too! I added the shaker or maraca from the “Big Room” in a massive 16th note 4 bar loop, just to give the composition, just to give “Gridiron Rush” a little something extra and to cap it off.
There ya have it! The story and behind the scenes look at how my latest piece, “Gridiron Rush”, an original piece that is inspired by the impending launch of the XFL was created, written, performed, produced, and how it came to be.
